Every year, March 3 is World Wildlife Day . This is a celebration meant to take stock of the rest of wildlife in the world today. This is also the time to organize and present the various programs for safeguarding endangered animal and plant species. At Meeko, this day has a special meaning, as it joins our #STEPCLOSER program. A day dedicated to the value of wildlife

It is a day through which we celebrate wild fauna and flora as beautiful as they are varied. It allows, among other things, to highlight the beauty of these spaces which are often the prey of predators, especially humans.

This day focuses mainly on raising public awareness of the place of wildlife in its environment, and above all, the conservation of endangered species. This is also the time to talk about the measures taken to reduce the illegal trade in endangered species. Indeed, wild fauna and flora play an important role in human well-being. They also contribute to sustainable development in ecological, educational, scientific, cultural, aesthetic and recreational terms. Especially since the disappearance of certain species has an economic, social and environmental impact.

The United Nations (UN) has therefore decided that the day of March 3, from 2014, the date on which the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was signed, will be the celebration of World Wildlife Day. The first objective is therefore to make everyone aware of the protection of wildlife in order to allow young people and children to better understand the important place that wildlife plays in their lives.

A concrete application of the measures taken to protect the environment

World Wildlife Day is not just a time for celebration. It is above all a question of the implementation of various measures which make it possible to take a further step towards the protection of the environment. A theme is chosen each year in order to guide the debates, events and activities.

For the year 2022, the theme of this celebration is “Recovering key species for the restoration of ecosystems”. This aims to draw attention to the status of endangered animals. It also underlines the power of all the actions implemented to preserve endangered animals. This day is therefore the time to highlight the beauty of the species essential to the maintenance of life on earth. In this sense, it does not only aim at the preservation of priority species. It also supports efforts undertaken to ensure sustainable development.

Among the important measures are the eradication of poverty, the fight against hunger, the fight against global warming, the protection of marine species and land life. Indeed, biodiversity and healthy ecosystems are the keys to sustainable development.

Important issues for everyone

More than 8,400 wild plant and animal species are currently on the endangered species list. About 30,000 other species are however vulnerable and are already on the verge of extinction. It is estimated that around one million species are threatened with extinction.

Moreover, the loss of these species and the degradation of their ecosystems and habitats are a threat to all of humanity. This does not only affect the population around the protected areas. The preservation of wildlife and endangered species contributes to improving the future and current living conditions of everyone. Indeed, it is through biodiversity that the resources necessary to meet the needs of human beings come. For this year, the day therefore highlights the change in the fate of endangered species as well as the restoration of their ecosystems and their habitat.

At Meeko, our mission is to contribute to the preservation of many endangered species through positive communication and financial and human commitment. It joins the World Wildlife Day movement in the implementation of concrete measures and awareness for the protection of nature.

Thus, through our #STEPCLOSER program , we work with NGOs that work to preserve endangered wildlife. We have included in our economic model a part of our turnover (3%) and of our time which will be devoted exclusively to local initiatives. These include the Sumatra Rainforest Institute (SRI), which is committed to protecting Sumatran orangutans, and the Pams Foundation, which works to save African elephants in Tanzania.

Our approach is accentuated in reducing the impact of our production on biodiversity. This is in line with the important points celebrated during World Wildlife Day. We therefore want to establish, through our products :
